Welcome to Discover the Answer! I’m Tyler J. Collins, a senior in high school who sees a need for people’s questions to get answers. Here’s a bit about me and my heart behind Discover the Answer.
In our schools, consideration of God has been expelled; in our churches, many pastors, leaders, and laypeople don’t have answers to the questions that people ask; and in our families, parents don’t know what to tell their kids when questions regarding the Bible, their faith, and related topics are brought up. My heart is to change that. We need parents and grandparents, scientists and doctors, and teachers and leaders who have incredible faith, solid answers, and who understand God’s Word.
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who slander you will be put to shame by your good behavior in Christ. 17 For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. (1 Peter 3:15 – 17)
I’ve grown up going to church. I’ve heard all of the classic Bible “stories,” learned all the good Sunday school lessons, and had all the good Sunday school answers. However, as I entered into High School, I was faced with the blunt opinions of of our culture. I had the choice of either living my “Christian” life when I needed to, or giving Jesus my entire life. It took a while, and it’s still a journey, but I chose the latter option.
When my faith became real for me, the blatant opposition to it also became real. I was faced with evolution in “science” class, judgment of who I was from classmates, and questions from others—not to mention my own doubts. By God’s hand, two adults, Lisa and Mike, ended up in my life and helped me get on my feet. They showed me the passion of truly following Christ and digging into His Word, and they introduced me to Christian apologetics—a field of Christian theology that presents historical, reasoned, and evidential bases for Christianity, defending it against objections.
As I began to investigate, the questions that had held me back were given clear answers, and I realized how relevant, authoritative, and true the Bible was from beginning to end. After looking at my classmates and seeing the many questions they had, with no one providing answers, God placed a desire in me to do just that.
That’s where I am now: at the very beginning of God’s plan for my life, finding answers for those who ask, and helping people understand that there is a God who loves them. We can find hope, peace, and love in Him despite the doubts, criticism, and mocking of the world. – Tyler J. Collins
