“And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so.” – Genesis 1:9
This verse allows for God to have originally created one large landmass. This hypothesis seems to be confirmed by studing plate tectonics. The idea of an original, large “super continent” is not a problem Biblically when we understand that the continents would have split up in the catastrophic worldwide flood of Noah’s day (circa. 2348 BC).
The difference between secular scientists and creation scientists, regarding Pangaea, is that the secular scientist believe it took hundreds of millions of years for that continent to split up, and the creation scientists believe it took a massive, world-wide event over a short period of time (aka: Noah’s flood).
The geological impact of the flood has been intensely researched by creation scientists like Dr. Andrew Snelling, who works for Answers in Genesis. If flood geology interests you, check out these articles: A Catastrophic Breakup and Plate Tectonics. They explain flood geology scientifically while standing firmly and unmovingly on God’s Word.
